Stacked Volumes
The complex is developed through a series of massing alternatives, each starting from the same rectangular volume and breaking it down in a different way.
One alternative separates the volumes to strengthen both the residential and public functions, places a public gallery in the entrance lobby, and defines spaces for movement and pause along the designed frames. Another divides the project into six zones, sets shared spaces between the layers of the residential zone, turns the cubes toward the best views and gives one cube to a public zone near the main entrance.
A modular alternative uses a 4 × 4 × 4 grid, reduces the cubes toward the upper levels to open views all around, and turns terraces into patios so the total floor area is kept. A further alternative sets duplex units within the overall volume, giving the southern duplexes views to the east, west and south and the northern duplexes views to the east, west and north, with linear roof terraces for the upper duplexes.
